FFA Holds Creed Night

On November 17th, 2023, Leigh FFA hosted their annual “Creed Night” open to the public in the Leigh High School Gym. 

The night started with opening ceremonies followed by the local Creed Speaking contest. This year, Leigh FFA had 12 freshmen recite the FFA creed.

After Creed Speaking, degree ceremonies were held for members in 7th grade, earning their Discovery Degree; 9th grade, earning their Greenhand Degree; and 10th grade, earning their Chapter Degree.

Discovery Degree Recipients:

Layton Held, Avery Kuester, Averi Clausen, Wyatt Eisenmann, Trent Olson, and Gus Erwin.

Greenhand Degree Recipients

Carmen Malena, Reese Wietfeld, Hannah Martensen, Grace Hansen, Rebecca Hastreiter, James Moore, Daphne Jedlicka, Kaylee Brabec, and Sydney Messerlie.

Chapter Degree Recipients:

Kammy Held, Brianne Kuhr, Jared Olson, Carter Brabec,Delanie Erwin, and Paige Kurpgeweit. 

After all of the degrees were handed out, the Creed Speaking Results were announced. 

Leigh FFA is allowed to send three members to compete at districts and have an alternate.

The alternate in 4th place was Kaylee Brabec. The three members competing at District LDEs are Blake Loseke, who received 3rd place; Reese Wietfeld, who received 2nd place; and Carmen Malena, who received 1st. 

The night was capped off with closing ceremonies.

Freshman FFA member Reese Wietfeld said, “Creed Night was intimidating, as I didn’t know what to expect, but I felt prepared and when it ended, I was confident in my speaking. I feel creed night was a great experience for the freshmen as we spent months preparing and had a chance to show our abilities.”
