Girls Varsity Track Gets Runner-Up at Lyons-Decatur

The Patriot Track team competed at their 3rd track meet on April 9th in Lyons.

There was an abundant amount of personal records set for individuals and teams. This track meet contains lots of competitions from different schools. There were 13 teams at this meet. Quite a few teammates were gone due to state FCCLA, but the girls’ team still ended up runner up!

Some of the personal records broken for the day were Gracie Sortino in her 4x8 split, Nevaeh Zulkoski in Shot, Maizie Stoklasa in Long Jump and broke the Patriot record, Reann Bruhn in the mile, Max Muhle in the mile, and Nile Jones in the 800. Needless to say, it was a great day to be a Patriot!

On the girls’ side, Maize ended up 1st in Triple Jump and Claire Holoubek ended up 3rd. In Long Jump, Maizie ended up 1st and broke the school record, and Ava Kasik ended up 5th. Neveah got 2nd in Shot, and 8th in Disc. Maizie ended up 1st in the 100. Chloe Hanel got 2nd and Maizie Stoklasa got 3rd in the 200. In the 100 hurdles, Ava Kasik got 1st, Claire Holoubek got 5th, and Lexis Gleason finished 6th. Getting 3rd in the 300 Hurdles was Ava. Reann competed in the mile and ended with 6th. On the 4x800 team that got 2nd was Gracie Sortino, Carmen Malena, Reann Bruhn, and Brianne Kuhr.

On the boys’ side of things, Tucker Matthies came out 5th in High Jump. Trey Steffensmeier got 3rd in Triple and Long Jump. Korbin Lemburg ended the day with 6th in Disc. Blake Loseke got 8th in the 100 and 400. On the 4x100 team that got first was Trey Steffensmeier, Blake Loseke, Joey Steffensmeier, and Tucker Matthies. 

Head Coach Briana Wietfeld said, “I am so proud of our team. The kids came ready to go for our 3rd meet of the season. We again were missing quite a few team members, but our team showed up ready to do good things. There were many other successes as well. We ended the day with the girls earning Runner's Up. They boys performed well as well. I am excited to see what this week of practice brings us as we prepare for Monday's meet.”

“There was lots of tough competition and I feel that our team did very well overall”, said Carmen Malena, a freshman on the track team. “I think that it went very well and we had lots of fun!”
