JH Boys’ Basketball Battles Schuyler and Wayne

The junior high boys continue to work hard and get in some more fun, competitive games of basketball. On February 4th, the 7th and 8th grade boys played the Schuyler Warriors.

They came out with lots of energy and took it to them right away. The B team started out the night with a great game. They played good defense and did just enough on offense to get the win. The final score was 20-16.

Joey Steffensmier was the leading scorer with 10 points.

The B team set the tone for the A team. The A team came out with just as much energy and showed up to play. They never laid off and ended up winning with a score of 45-29. Dylan Higby was the leading scorer with 18 points.

JH boys’ coach, Seth Cash, said, “Schuyler was a good win for both teams.  The A group played a close three quarters, but pulled away in the fourth, outscoring Schuyler 17-2.  Dylan Higby had a tremendous night, leading the team with 18 points.  Our B team also had a nice win with Joey Steffensmeier leading the B team with 10 points on the night.  Overall, both groups gave a great effort and came out with the win."

After two great wins versus Schuyler, the Patriots played the Wayne Blue Devils on February 6. Hoping for the same results as their last game, they came ready to play.

The B team took the floor first and played well. They worked their hardest, but the Blue Devils were too much for them to handle. They ended up losing 27-40 with Joey Steffensmier leading with 10 points.

The A team was up next. They tried to do what the B team couldn’t and get a win. Despite their best efforts, they came up just short of a win. They lost 37-41. Jacob Held let the team with 14 points.

Eighth-grader Dylan Higby said, “Going into the Wayne game we had a mindset of showing up to play with a really good team that blew us out last year, and even though the outcome wasn't the way we wanted it, we still played as hard as we could.”
