Mrs. Cerv and Art Students Create Hallway Mural

As the school year comes to an end, there are still many exciting things happening at Leigh Community Schools. One of those exciting things is the mural that is being painted in between the elementary and the high school. Mrs. Cerv and her high school art kids have been hard at the mural for the past couple of weeks.

Back in August, Mrs. Kylie Hollatz asked Mrs. Cerv if she was interested in painting a mural in the school on the blank wall that links the elementary to the high school. Mrs. Cerv was instantly hooked on the idea. The art students were fortunate to receive a $300 donation from the Cornhusker Public Power Goodwill Fund to be used for paint and supplies for the mural.

Mrs. Cerv said the goal of this mural is to represent the togetherness of the town of Leigh and the uniqueness of Leigh Community Schools.  It shows the community and subjects and extracurriculars that inspire the students.

Many students have continued to come work on the mural even after the school year ended this past week.

Neveah Zulkoski was one of many who were able to help out. She stated, “I am very excited to be a part of something that will last for generations in Leigh High School. Mrs. Cerv has had an amazing vision of the mural, and I am very happy to help her put it together and help her vision come to life!” We are so excited to see this mural completed, and we thank Mrs. Cerv and her students for creating it!

Mrs. Cerv, who is retiring this year, simply said, “Leave your mark wherever you go. Leave a mark that has longevity. These things will always be important to Leigh and the high school.”
