JH Track Competes at Madison

By: Sage Fernau, a freshman at Leigh High School

With two of their first three track meets cancelled due to weather, the junior high track team was very excited to compete in Madison.

The junior high schoolers finally kicked off their first track meet this season that took place in Madison on April 15. It was a cold day outside, but the JH girls victoriously took home second place with 108 points, with the winning team, Elkhorn Valley, scoring 149.

The boys this meet took home third place with 32 points.

It was a great first outing for everyone,” JH Track coach Mrs. Michelle Held said, “since we didn’t have a track last year at all, and so no one knew what to expect or even what track is like.  I was really happy with how the athletes all performed and many placed in their events, which is always fun.  They tried their very best, and were encouraging and cheering on their other teammates when they weren’t competing themselves.”

7th Grader Luke Eisenmann said, “It was the first track meet of the year for all us due to Covid cancelling track last year. We started out strong with multiple first place finishers in field events, and kept it going into the running events. It was definitely new for us, but we all came to compete, and the girls team got second place in the meet.”
