JH Volleyball Starts Season With Win

One of the best parts about entering the ranks for junior high is the opportunity to start participating in extracurricular activities like volleyball.

This year’s junior high volleyball team is down in numbers a bit with 21 total girls and only 6 from Leigh, 3 seventh graders and 3 eighth graders

The junior high Patriot volleyball team started their season with their first game on August 28 in an away game against Wisner-Pilger.

In the first game, the A team won 2 of 3 sets.  The B team split sets 1-1, and the C team only played 1 set and lost.

Eighth grader Sadie Brabec said, “I thought we did pretty good, but since it’s the first game of the season, we still have a lot to work on and learn.  The A team won with many set ups and serves.  Even though we won, we still could have played more aggressively.’

“Our first game for the A, B, and C teams showed growth from last year,” Coach Jennifer Maliha said. “Sadie Brabec served 13 in a row to start the second set of the A game.  That was a huge team effort to keep that lead going.  We would like to see more attacks during rallies in all our games, but we stayed in control of the hits we did have.  Our season goes really fast, so I’m looking forward to building skills and getting better each week.”

In addition to Mrs. Maliha, the Patriots are coached by Mr. Seth Cash, Mrs. Kim Heimann, and Mrs. KC Hegemann.

Good luck to the girls this year!
