Patriot Girls Lead the Way at Twin River Track Meet

On Thursday, April 18, 2024, the Clarkson-Leigh Patriot Track and Field Team made their way to Genoa, Nebraska for a 12 o’clock start time. There were nine schools at the meet.

The first-place girls’ track team was led by Maizie Stoklasa, Ava Kasik, and Brynn Settje. Stoklasa led the team in points with a 37’02” jump in the triple jump competition, a 17’04” jump in the long jump competition, and was a part of the first place 4x100M relay with her teammates Brynn Settje, Tanyn Larson, and Kendall Schnieder.

Ava Kasik placed first in both 100M Hurdles (17 seconds) and 300M Hurdles (50.5 seconds). Kasik also helped the team by placing sixth in long jump.

Senior teammate, Tanyn Larson said, “The Twin River track meet went very well for many people! It was exciting to see numerous Clarkson-Leigh athletes have a successful day. The girls also finished first place!”

Despite their numbers, the boys’ team had many people who placed in their respective events. Trey Steffensmeier led the boys in points with a second place finish in both triple jump (39-7.5) and long jump (19-6.75).

Nevaeh Zulkoski, a sophomore, said, “I feel the track meet went very well. The girls got 1st place and many people PRd. Everyone was cheering on their teammates and trying their best.”

Coach Briana Wietfeld said, “We had a very successful meet at Twin River. Girls were Champions! Each athlete that competed contributed to the success of that meet. We had some great improvements and kids are starting to peak at the right time. Nile Jones proved he has great potential in the 800 running a PR of a time of 2:15. Reann and Brianne pulled through with the 2nd and 3rd place in the mile securing the win for the overall team. Both 4x100s took home first, with the boys PRing. Ella Baurmert made some noise with a PR jump of over 34 feet in triple. Nevaeh PR in her throw and Tanyn in her sprints. These are just some of the successes from that meet. Nice work Patriots!”
