Patriot Sports Banquet Marks Year of Accomplishments
After a year’s worth of accomplishments, struggles, and perseverance for Patriot athletes on the fields and court, the Clarkson-Leigh Patriot sports banquet was held on Thursday April 30th, 2015, to honor student-athletes and celebrate another year of success.
The banquet was at the Colfax County Fairgrounds at 7 pm. Junior Kaitlyn Becher and sophomore Bradley Bunner put a video together to share photos of the year. Many parents, athletes, coaches, and staff attended. M & M Market in Clarkson catered a meal of pork loin sandwiches, baked beans, potato salad, potato chips, and ice cream.
The following awards were presented:
Dance:
The 2014-2105 Clarkson-Leigh Dance Team had 10 girls letter. Seniors Hallee Held, Hannah Hake, and Kaitlyn Dlouhy; juniors Kaitlyn Becher, Shelby Fuhr, and Rachel Rupprecht; sophomores Kenzie Noonan and Karmen Hake; and freshman Sydney Folken and Jacquelyn Lee.
Girls’ Golf:
The girls’ golf team had three girls letter this year: seniors Justine Callahan and Jenna Podany, and sophomore Karmen Hake.
Football:
The Following Patriot football awards were presented: Seth Thompson and Christopher Konicek—1st Team All-District; Bradley Bunner, Kobe Parocki, and Keaton Indra—2nd Team; and Ty Pokorney and Ben Kuhr—Honorable Mention. Letterwinners were announced at a previous date.
Volleyball:
The 2014 Patriot Volleyball letter winners were announced, including seniors: Alyssa Oeltjen, Tayler Gall, Hallee Held, and Hanna Hake; juniors: Alyssa Novotny, Maddie Cerv, Kaitlyn Becher, and Camille Koehn; sophomores: Cully Cerv and Shelby Paprocki.
Camille Koehn and Kaitlyn Becher received Academic All-State. Alyssa Novotny received All-Conference 3rd Team. Tayler Gall received All-Conference Honorable Mention. Maddie Cerv received 2014 All-Class C2 Team and Honorable Mention.
Softball:
The Highway 91 Cyclones were also represented at the sports banquet. The letter winners from Clarkson and Leigh were Jena Hart, Megan Venneman, Kendra Marxsen, Cassie Harper, Megan Bahns, Cydnie Ross, Destiny Indra, Sheila Riechmuth, and Sarah Kudrna.
Sophomore Emily Schnelle received the “Most Improved Player” Award. Cassie Harper received the “Role Player” Award. Junior Sarah Kudrna Received the “Hard Working” Award and was 2nd on the team in runs with 14 runs scored.
Sophomore Megan Bahns received Academic All-State, “Diamond Thief” Award (14 stolen bases, 2 outfield assists), led the team with 15 RBIs, and 2 home runs. Cydnie Ross led the team with 12 walks.
Junior Destiny Indra received 1st team All-Conference and All-District Team, Omaha and Lincoln Honorable Mention All-State, Team MVP, “Golden Glove” winner with a .958 fielding percentage, led the team in hits (37), BA (.474), OBP (.544), and RS (18).
Senior Sheila Riechmuth received Academic All-State, “Leadership” and “First Aid Kit” Awards (led team with 5 hit-by pitch). She was second on the team with 11 stolen bases. Sheila will participate this summer in the Northeast Nebraska softball All-Star game and the CCC All-Star softball game in Columbus.
Wrestling:
Patriot Wrestlers who compete for Schuyler included Tony Cuyler, Daniel Arriaza, Tim Zimmerman, and Derek Gurnsey. Tony Cuyler was a letter-winner.
Boys’ Basketball:
The 2014 Patriot Boys Basketball team had 11 boys letter, including seniors: Dwight Brabec, Christopher Konicek, Matt McMullin, Riley Schroeder, and Nick Wendt; juniors: Colby Becker, Dominik Harper, Ben McMullin, Kobe Paprocki, Brandon Steffensmeier, and Seth Thompson.
Christopher Konicek received East Husker Conference 1st Team, Honorable Mention Omaha World Herald All-State, Honorable Mention Lincoln Journal Star, Columbus Telegram All-Area Division 1 Second Team, Norfolk Daily News All-Area 3rd Team, Striv All-Star game participant.
Matt McMullin received East Husker Conference 3rd Team, Honorable Mention Omaha World Herald All-State, Honorable Mention Lincoln Journal Star, Lincoln Journal Star Academic All-State, and was a Striv All-Star participant.
Nick Wendt received the East Husker Conference Honorable Mention and the Honorable Mention Omaha World Herald All-State.
Girls’ Basketball:
The 2014-2015 Patriot girls’ basketball team had 10 letter winners, including seniors: Hallee Held, Alyssa Oeltjen, and Sheila Reichmuth; and juniors: Jessi Sayers, Maddie Cerv, Destiny Indra, Camille Koehn, Megan Svehla, and Alyssa Novotny.
Postseason awards were also presented. Alyssa Novotny received 1st Team AlL-Area Columbus Telegram, 1st Team All Conference (EHC), 3rd Team Norfolk Daily News, and Lincoln Journal Star.
Alyssa Oeltjen, Destiny Indra, Maddie Cerv, and Alyssa Novotny all received Honorable Mention Omaha World Herald. Sheila Reichmuth and Jessi Sayers both received NSAA Academic All-State.
There were also five team awards given to outstanding members of the team. Alyssa Novotny—Most Valuable Player, Sheila Reichmuth—Defensive Player of the Year, Maddie Cerv—Inspirational Player Award, Hallee Held—Teammate of the Year Award, and Jessi Sayers—Hustle Award.
Track:
Letterwinners so far include Cassie Harper, Keasha Geier, Sam DeBord, Breanna Ashton, Sydney Folken, Tayler Gall, Alyssa Oeltjen, Alyssa Novotny, Shelby Paprocki, Sheila Reichmuth, Dwight Brabec, Bradley Bunner, Tony Cuyler, Christopher Konicek, Jon Langdon, Luiz Mayorga, Blake Paprocki, Kobe Paprocki, Ty Pokorney, Tim Zimmerman, Jacob Gall.
The students who competed in the Northeast Track Classic held in Norfolk were also recognized. These include Tayler Gall, Christopher Konicek, Dominik Harper, and Bradley Bunner. Bradley Bunner received the All-Around Best Male Athlete at the Classic.
Boys’ Golf:
The season is still ongoing, so there are no honors so far. All members were recognized, including Taylor Stanley, Tony Mach, Tanner Stanley, Clay Kabes, Garrett Schroeder, Austin McAuliffe, Kyle Kabes, Tate Christensen, and Martin Diaz.
They golf team plans on taking the team and/or individuals to the State Golf Meet on May 28-29.
