Dance Team Kicks off Season at Spirit Night

September 08, 2020

By: Leah Pinkston, a freshman at Leigh High School

Kicking off right before the start of the school year, the Clarkson-Leigh dance team began practice at the end of July 2020, and they debuted their first dance at the Booster Club Spirit Night in Clarkson.

The team consists Bridget Rupprect, Bethany Rupprecht, Madisyn Pelan, Alyssa Gurnsey, Morgan Brabec, and Kelsey Moore.  Of these six, Rupprecht, Rupprecht, Pelan, and Gurnsey make up the elite competition team.

The team is coached by Erika Rupprecht and Rachel Rupprecht.

The coaches plan to have them learn eight dances for the year to perform at both the basketball and football games as well as competitions for the elite team. Though they are unsure whether the plans will happen due to the COVID-19 pandemic interrupting their schedule, there are high hopes for this year.

Leigh senior Madisyn Pelan says, “The beginning of our season was very interesting with having different conditions to practice in. We had a total of four practices for our first dance at Spirit Night, and we did better than we thought we would. I look forward to the rest of our dance season and what it brings.”

“I really hope this is a good year, Coach Rachel Rupprecht said. “I hope we are able to perform at all games and competitions. It will be sad at the end of the year to lose five seniors.”
