Leigh High School Welcomes New Principal: Mr. Troy Holmberg
With the first quarter already in the books, many students and parents have had a chance to get to know a new face to Leigh High School. The high school has a new principal this year, Mr. Troy Holmberg.
Mr. Holmberg also serves as athletic director and transportation director. He replaces Mr. Jarred Royal, who served as principal for five years.
Mr. Holmberg grew up around Council Bluffs, Iowa where he went to high school at St. Albert. After graduating, he earned his bachelor's degree from Iowa State University and later moved on to the University of Nebraska-Omaha to complete his master’s.
During his teaching career, Mr. Holmberg taught science at schools such as Falls City Sacred Heart, Wahoo Neumann and Columbus High. He comes to Leigh with seven years as an administrator under his belt, serving as principal at Wauneta-Palisade and Shelby-Rising City.
When asked what drew him to the job in Leigh, he said, “I like working in small districts where I can get to know people better; Leigh is known to be a community where people take pride in both the town and the school system.”
When first coming to Leigh, Troy stated that we have great people here at our school at all levels, and he’s greatly impressed with the willingness of the students to work with each other and the teachers. He has also said that Leigh is a great place to be because we have teachers truly working to ensure that students are successful.
Mr. Holmberg has a wife, Patti, and two children. His daughter, Alicia, is an eighth grader at Leigh High School, and his son, Kyle, is a fifth grader at Leigh Elementary.
In his free time, you’d find Mr. Holmberg walking, watching sports and listening to music.
We wish to extend a hearty welcome to Mr. Holmberg and his family on behalf of the school district and community!
