2017 Clarkson-Leigh Prom: An Enchanted Evening
Every high-schooler dreams of their one night to shine, their one night to feel truly like royalty. Flashing lights, elegant meals, poofy dresses and a night of dancing and games.
What might this wondrous night be called? Well it’s prom of course.
Leigh and Clarkson High School combine their junior and senior classes for the Prom dance. The location switches annually between both towns.
This year Prom was held in Clarkson at the Opera House. The theme was “An Enchanted Evening.” The décor was a whimsical enchanted forest theme, and included white linen table cloths and napkins and white silk seat covers. Rustic wood tree bark and tall vases filled with hydrangeas and hanging Japanese cherry blossom flowers covered the tables. Branches, twinkle lights, lanterns, and tulle formed the backdrop and covered the ceiling.
Decorating was done by To a Tee Decorating of Creston and the junior classes of Leigh and Clarkson.
The night began with pictures by Kevin Gall Photography. Next students could attend an optional mass at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church.
The meal began at 6:15 pm and consisted of house salad, chicken alfredo and a breadstick, and cheesecake for dessert. The meal was provided by Hy-Vee.
After the meal, the Grand March was open to the public, and the first dance a parent-child dance.
From there, a night of dancing and games awaited. Music for the dance was provided by Chuck and Sue Folken.
At the conclusion of the dance, students boarded a bus to go to the Norfolk YMCA for the Post-Prom activities. The junior and senior parents worked very hard to provide great games and prizes for everyone in attendance.
“Prom was an exquisite experience for me,” senior Nickolaus Ober said. “It was so grand to be able to dance the night away with friends! Post-Prom was also a great time, and I really enjoyed all the cool prizes I got to pick from at the end of the night!”
