Athletes Recognized at Annual Sports Banquet

Derek Gurnsey, Sydney Folken, and Haden Held were awarded the Patriot Booster Club Scholarships.

The Colfax County Fairgrounds in Leigh was once again the venue for the annual Clarkson-Leigh Patriot Sports Banquet, held on April 27 this year.

Coaches, athletes, family, and community members celebrated a year full of memories and accomplishments in softball, volleyball, football, girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball, wrestling, dance, boys’ and girls’ track, and boys’ golf.

Before the awards ceremony began, Alice Long catered a delicious meal that was served to all coaches, athletes, and families that attended. A highlight video was created by Mr. Matt Murren with the help of Kelsey Moore, Morgan Brabec, and Rebekah Kosmacek. The video recognized each individual sport and their accomplishments.

After the video was presented, the head coach of each sport gave a speech recapping the team’s season, presenting the letterwinners, and noting some of the individual accomplishments a few players had.

“The sports’ banquet is a great evening to recognize the achievements of our student athletes,” boys’ basketball head coach, Jeff Bachman says. “A big thank you to the Booster Club for putting on the Banquet and all their support throughout the year, the Administration for the opportunities to coach and their support, our parents for raising wonderful kids with great work ethic and the Student Athletes themselves for putting the time and effort into their sports”.

Once the coaches were finished with their speeches, the Patriot Booster Club Scholarship and Patriot Youth Council Scholarships were awarded.

The Patriot Booster Club Scholarship was awarded to Haden Held, Sydney Folken, and Derek Gurnsey.

The Patriot Youth Council Scholarship was awarded to Haden Held and Anthony Bruhn.

“This scholarship will be a huge help when I go to college in the fall. It is an honor to be chosen to receive this scholarship because it shows that all of my hard work the last four years has paid off,” recipient Sydney Folken says. “The Booster Club and Youth Program has done so much over the years and they still will continue to support me even when I’m out of high school with this scholarship money.”

Congratulations to all of the teams for their success this season, and good luck to them as they prepare this summer for the upcoming seasons!
