Grades 9-12 Dating Violence Presentation

Students in grades 9-12 participated in a Dating and Sexual Assault assembly presented by the “Revolution” group from the Columbus Center for Survivors.  The group consists of students from the Columbus area high schools who are committed to informing teens about the dangers of dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking through peer-to-peer education. The group began with a dramatization written and performed by the students that included subject matter pertaining to dating violence and sexual assault.  Then the group answered questions from the Leigh students related to the dramatization and the topics covered. The presentation concluded with a slideshow which gave students time to reflect on the presentation and to gain more information about healthy dating relationships and what to do if you or a friend is involved in an abusive relationship. This is an issue that impacts many people directly or indirectly involving friends and family members. Dating violence identification and prevention is a focal area of the Nebraska Department of Education.
