After two years of waiting anxiously and excitedly, after two years of preparing with community meetings and a successful bond campaign, the construction for the new Leigh High School is finally underway!

After the bond election, the DLR group began the process of determining initial criteria for the new building.  From there, in the next step of the design-build process, BVH Architects are partnering with Hausmann Construction to complete the job.

The new school year began on August 14th amid ongoing dirt work the beginning of the construction phase.  The project officially broke ground on August 5. The estimated timeline for completing the new school is in the Fall of 2020.

Superintendent Stephanie Peterson said “With the current condition of the high school, I am very glad that our community came together to address the problem and move forward with a new building. The new building is a big step in our strong future at Leigh.”

Everyone is excited to see what the new school has in store for our community and the future growth it will promote for the community.

Current high school students who will be the first to walk the halls of the new Leigh High are especially excited, but say the experience will be bittersweet.

One of those students, sophomore Natalie Brabec, said, “I am super excited about the new school, but I will be sad to leave this school because it has so many memories and history in it. The biggest thing that I am looking forward to the new school is being able to see all of the elementary kids every day. Also, I am looking forward to not having to climb all of the stairs. The new school will be a big change for all of the students, staff, and community members of Leigh."
