Girls’ Golf Team Competes in Back-to-Back Meets

The girls’ golf team have had another exciting stretch. They kicked this week off with two back-to-back meets in Oakland on Monday September 23 and Stanton on the 24th.

In their first meet of the week in Oakland, the Lady Patriots finished third out of four total schools. They faced off against Oakland-Craig, West Point-Beemer, and Tri-County Schools.

Ashly Guillen led the team with a score of 69. Mady Janousek shot a 77, Ashlynn Cropp and Hazel Mundt shot an 81, and Cortlynn Cadwallader shot an 82.

"I was pleased with the girls’ scores at a new course.  We need to work on eliminating a stroke here and there on some holes,” said head coach, Jay Knaak. “This is the course that we play districts on, so it was nice to see it and play it before then."

On Tuesday, they traveled to Elkhorn Acres in Stanton to battle against Stanton and Columbus Lakeview in a triangular.

“There was only three of us that went to that meet and out of all of us that went we all scored our best out of all the meets, and I got the first par of the season out of all of us. We all have parred at least one hole in practice, but this was the first one at a meet,” said sophomore, Cortlynn Cadwallader.

Their scores were as follows: Ashly Guillen - 60, Cortlynn Cadwallader - 63, and Hazel Mundt - 74.

"The girls that went to the meet shot their best rounds of the year so far, and there is still room for a little improvement,” Knaak said. “We still have a few strokes to pick-up around the greens, but overall the day was satisfying. We did get our first bad weather of the year as it began to rain on the last hole, but the girls fought through it and completed the round."
