Knights Too Much for Patriots to Handle

Oakland-Craig Sweeps C-L in all 4 Games

Freshman Mason Whitmore tries to block a shot in the JV game against Oakland Craig.

Both boys’ and girls’ basketball teams had a rough Tuesday night this week when they faced Oakland-Craig. The Knights swept the Patriots at all levels in this marathon.

The girls’ JV team was outscored 8-20 in the first game of the night. The boys’ JV game was a similar story with a score of 22-42 in favor of the Knights.

The Lady Patriots varsity team was cold all night. They could not get shots to fall and were pestered with constant pressure from the Oakland-Craig defense.

“We knew going into this game it was going to be a tough match up,” assistant coach Abby Sayers said.  “They came out and played fast and physical.  We did some good things but definitely have areas to improve. Our focus moving forward is to continue improving on our communication, play strong defense, and become an offensive threat.  This was a tough loss but does not define our season.”

Sophomore, Kennedy Settje said, “The loss against Oakland Craig was an eye opener for all of us. We saw a lot of things we can improve on and all the different places where we can grow. Thankfully, all the mistakes we made are fixable. We need to take this game as it is and just work hard to fix our mistakes and grow as a team.”

The boys’ varsity team hung with the Knights in the first quarter with a close score of 17-22, but after that, the opposing team started to run away with the game.

“All the players from Oakland-Craig were very fast and good shooters, and we struggled against them because of this,” said junior, Lance Paprocki.

The result of the game was a 28-point win for Oakland-Craig with a score of 82-54.

Head coach Jeff Bachman said, “I was proud of the way we competed. We ran into a team that shot well and was more physical than we were. I was pleased with our offensive output, but we have to get better defensively.”

As of this game, both the girls’ and boys’ varsity teams have 1-2 records.
