Patriot Dance Team Dominates at Centura Competition

Every year the Patriot dance team competes at Centura Dance Competition, and this year was no different. This year the Elite Team, which consists of five members, competed in two categories: Pom and Hip-Hop. There were five total categories with 5-8 entrants in each category.

The Clarkson-Leigh team placed 1st in both of their categories!

“We had a really great time at the Centura Competition,” senior Elite Team member Taya Gross said. “We will not be attending State Dance in Grand Island this year, but we will be going to a different competition in Omaha. I feel that Centura helped prepare us for that competition.

In addition to Gross, the other members of the Elite dance team are Clarkson members Tess Indra, Brittney Urbanek, Bridget Rupprecht, and Bethany Rupprecht.

Dance coach Rachel Rupprecht said, “The Centura competition and Jam the Gym were both a great experience for our team, and we look forward to the rest of the season!”

The following weekend, the Patriots took part in a dance showcase at the annual Jam the Gym event at Columbus High School.  This event is not a competition, but it is a time for teams to share their new dances they’ve been working on throughout the year as well as give them practice in front of an audience for upcoming competitions and recitals.

The Patriot dance team will round out their season by dancing at a few more basketball games and then competing at the Omaha competition in April.
