Cassi Rayback Wins 8th Grade Poetry Recitation Contest

Every year Mrs. Fischer's 8th grade writing class completes a poetry writing unit where they study and write various forms of poems.  While they complete this unit, they also hold a NCAA basketball-style "March Madness" poetry recitation competition.

In the competition, all 8th graders must recite a poem of their choosing out loud using their best vocal variety, volume, gestures, eye contact, and facial expressions.  They are randomly put into a bracket, and they square off against each other.  After giving each other constructive feedback, the class votes on the winner, and the winner advances to the next round. In the single elimination tournament, there were 5 rounds to be champion this year, which means the winner had to recite 5 different poems in 5 rounds.

This year the competition was completed from home using the online tool Flipgrid.  Students recorded their videos at home and watched each other then voted!  The entire school staff voted on the championship!

Mrs. Fischer would like to proudly announce that this year's championship was between Cassi Rayback and Aubrie Hanna, with Cassi Rayback winning the title!

Cassi receives the very special prize of having her junior high picture posted in Mrs. Fischer's classroom for all to see for the rest of eternity!

All the 8th graders did an excellent job!  Congratulations Cassi!
