JHGBB Finishes Season With String of Wins

By Jacob Martensen, a freshman at Leigh High School.

The girls’ junior high basketball team finished their season with three wins
in a row at both levels on January 11, January 14, and January 16.
On Monday, January 11, the girls played at Stanton. Against the
Mustangs, the B team crushed the Mustangs with a 22-9 win. The A team then
followed suit with a 37-18 win.
8 th grader Bailey Settje said, “For Stanton we started out slow, but after half
time we came out strong and pulled out a win.
A few days later on Thursday, January 14, the girls battled Shelby-Rising
City and defeated them 41-9 (B team) and 32-12 (A team).
“For the Shelby game we came out strong and played strong until the end,
which resulted in a win for us,” Settje said. “This game was a great way to end
our season because we played very well.”
JH Head Coach Matt Murren said, "The girls in both these games had
great second halves to allow them to pull away.”
The girls then pulled off wins at both levels against Howells-Dodge in
Clarkson in their final game of the season on Saturday, January 16.
“Overall, these games were great ways for the girls to get back on the
court and finish their season strong,” Murren said.
Along with Head Coach Murren, the junior high girls were assisted by Tami
Sayers and Melissa Brabec.
Congratulations to both JH girls’ teams on an outstanding winning season!
