LHS Class of 2022 Senior Spotlight: Kennedy Settje

By: Jared Olson, a freshman at Leigh High School

This week’s senior spotlight for the LHS Class of 2022 is none other than Kennedy Jayde Settje.

Kennedy was born on September 1, 2004, at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, Nebraska, to Chad and Kristi Settje. She has four siblings, including her older sister, Reagan, who graduated in 2020; the twins, Baylee and Brynn, who are freshmen; and her sister, Bergan, who is in fourth grade.

Her grandparents are Judy and the late Gary Blessen, Tom and Sue Kabes, Mike and Cindy Settje, LaVern and Joyce Wendt, and Stan and Marilyn Settje. She has a dog named Jax. He's a Peekapoo.

Throughout high school, Kennedy has participated in FBLA, One-Act, volleyball, track, basketball, choir, and journalism for four years; and band for two years. She is also a member of the Youth Advisory Committee.  While in high school, she has earned honors in both academics and sports.  She was named “Student of the Month,” she held many officer positions in her leadership activities, and she was a multi-year letter winner in all her activities.

Kennedy has been a key member of the Patriot sports teams throughout her high school career.  As a sophomore, she earned All-State honorable mention and All-Confernece Honorable Mention in basketball.  As a junior, she earned All-State Honorable Mention in volleyball and basketball and Third-Team All-Conference in both sports.

Her senior year, she has been named All-State Honorable mention in volleyball and second team All-Conference.  Additionally, she was named a Columbus Telegram “Super Senior” in basketball.

She also qualified for State Track her junior year.

Kennedy’s proudest high school accomplishment has been “Making state in every sport,” she says.

When Kennedy is not in school or playing sports, her favorite hobbies are shopping and spending time with family and friends.

Kennedy’s future college plans are to go to the Northeast Community College to be a Physical Therapist Assistant.

In 10-15 years, she sees herself with a good job and hopefully starting a family of her own. She plans on coming back to a smaller town.

Some of Kennedy’s favorite things include the TV Series Outer Banks. Her favorite subject in school is Culinary Arts, her favorite food is roast and potatoes, and her favorite sports team is the Huskers. If she could travel anywhere in the world, she would go to Hawaii because she has never been there and would like to see the beaches and what Hawaii is all about.

Kennedy says her biggest pet peeves are when people show up late and slow drivers. Her bad habits are biting her nails.

If Kennedy won the lottery she says she would go on a shopping spree and take a trip with her friends and family somewhere. She’d also pay off all her debt and buy a cabin somewhere fun!

Three words that best describe Kennedy are hard-working, active, and responsible. Her advice to underclassmen would be “It really does go by fast so enjoy it. Don’t take any of this for granted.”

We wish Kennedy good luck, and we hope that she succeeds in all of her endeavors!
