Baylee Settje and Jacob Eisenmann Named “Students of the Month”

By: Brynn Settje, a freshman at Leigh High School

Each month during the school year two students are selected by their teachers to be “Student of the Month.” This month freshman Baylee Settje and senior Jacob Eisenmann were the ones who were chosen!

These two are both new winners to this award. They are both hard-working and very deserving!

The first Student of the Month is Baylee Settje.

Baylee’s parents are Chad and Kristi Settje. Her grandparents are Judy and the late Gary Blessen of Creston, Tom and Susan Kabes of Clarkson, and Mike and Cindy Settje of Leigh. Her great-grandparents are Lavern and Joyce Wendt of Leigh and Stanley and Marilyn Settje of Leigh.

Baylee participates in volleyball, basketball, FCCLA, One-Act, FBLA, and track. Her favorite class in FCS. Her favorite hobbies outside of school are hanging out with friends and family, playing sports, and playing with her dog.

Since she’s only a freshman, she still has plenty of time to think about her future, but at this time she is thinking about being a physical therapist assistant.

Baylee said, “I felt honored after winning Student of the Month because it just shows that all of my good work in my classes and extracurriculars is paying off.”

This is what Baylee’s teachers said about her:

“She always has an awesome attitude, and she works incredibly hard on all her schoolwork. She takes her school work very seriously but she is also very involved in extracurriculars too. She is just a great all-around kid who is a great representative of what LCS is all about!”

“Baylee is extremely friendly, positive, hard-working, and competitive. She does a great job in the classroom and in her extracurriculars. She is also genuinely fun to have in school.”

The second person who is Student of the Month is Jacob Eisenmann.

Jacob’s parents are David and Kim Eisenmann. His grandparents are Kenny and Janet Eisenmann of Leigh and Jim and Jeanne Stuart of Nebraska City.

Jacob participates in FFA, One-Act, basketball, 4-H, and Youth Advisory Committee. His favorite subject in school is Ag/Shop. Her favorite hobbies are working on the farm, hunting, fishing, and trapping. He plans on going to Northeast Community College to major in Diversified Ag then return to the family farm to farm.

Jacob said, “This is an honor and a great achievement to end high school career.”

This is what the teachers said about Jacob:

“Jacob is definitely a leader in our school! He cares about academics and works hard to get good grades.  He uses all of his class time even when others choose not to. If he has 5 minutes, he will use it. He was the leader of the One-Act crew this fall. More recently, he has placed extremely high in all his CDE events for FFA and recently qualified for state, and he was an awesome team member in basketball.”

“Jacob is very hard working and always has a positive attitude in all he does. He can be quiet, but he also has a great sense of humor that makes school fun.”
