Patriot Wrestling Takes to the Mat!

Nine Wrestlers Kick Off Season with Home Quad

Junior Morgan Bunner wrestles against a High Plains opponent in the Patriots' opening quad on December 1.

With a full season ahead, the Patriot Wrestling Team can’t wait to get back on the mat!
This year, the Patriot Wrestling Team will consist of the lone senior Jackson Koehn; juniors
Dylan Higby, James Grotelueschen, Jaden Stoklasa, Andrew Rivera, and Morgan Bunner; sophomore
Jacob Koehn; and freshmen Levi Gall and Coal Fernau.
The Patriot Wrestling Team will be coached by Tyler Reeves, Tony Horacek, Jorge Gomez,
and Ryan Molacek.
The Patriot Wrestlers kicked off their season on Thursday, December 1, with a quad in their
home gym at Leigh. The other teams at this quad included High Plains Community, Shelby-Rising
City, and Winside.
Clarkson-Leigh started off the night well, winning against Winside with a score of 42-24.
The second dual of the night, the Patriots faced High Plains Community and defeated them 34-24.
The last dual of the night against Shelby-Rising City didn’t quite end the way the Patriots wanted,
but there were many weight classes left open, which meant several Patriot wrestlers weren’t able to
compete. Clarkson-Leigh lost to S-RC with a score of 30-42.
Junior Dylan Higby said, “For the first meet of the year, we came out pretty good. I’m looking
forward to seeing what our team can achieve this year.”
Head Coach Tyler Reeves said, “It was a solid performance for us tonight. We won two out of
the three duals even with a short turnaround from a football state championship. We are riding that
momentum right now until we get to the weight classes we want.
“Morgan had a big win over the preseason #5-rated kid, and Jackson had a win over a kid
rated higher than him as well. They battled hard in every match and will only get better as we go.
It’s going to be a great season, and I’m excited to see big things happen with this team.”
We wish the Patriot Wrestling Team good luck with the rest of their season!
