Girls’ Basketball Team Is Ready to Compete!
This season for the girls’ basketball team is looking great, and the players are ready to
start the season off strong!
This year’s team is smaller than recent years, but there are still 18 girls. It is also a
younger team with only five upperclassmen to lead the team. There are also only two returning
starters—junior Chloe Hanel and sophomore Brynn Settje.
This year’s team is made up of two seniors: Korbee Wendt and Jessica Hoffman.
There are three juniors: Chloe Hanel, Gracie Eisenmann, and Cassi Rayback.
The seven sophomores are Cadence Indra, Brynn Settje, Baylee Settje, Izzy Hollatz,
Brianne Kuhr, Rylee Balzer, and Makenna Hake.
Finally, six freshmen round out the team—Ava Kasik, Nevaeh Zulkoski, Kendall
Schneider, Karly Wendt, Elizabeth Hoffman, and Hannah Cech.
The coaching staff this season includes Head Coach Matt Murren, and assistants
Jennifer Remmereid, and Becca Hiatt.
The annual NSAA jamboree was held in Clarkson against Wynot on Monday, November
28th. This practice game was a great way for the Patriots to get back in the swing of things, and
the girls pulled off a win 47-40.
When head coach Matt Murren was asked about the jamboree and his thoughts about
the season ahead, he said, “The girls did a good job in the jamboree game being the first time
that we've gone live against other competition. We handled the ball well and got good looks on
the offensive end of the floor.
“Defensively it was good to see things we did well such as rebounding and others that
we need to work. The girls are working hard and will continue to improve as the year goes
along. This group has great camaraderie and that is going to take them a long way. It is a fun
time of the year and I am excited to see how far this group can go because it is all out in front of
them to go get.”
Senior Jessica Hoffman said, “Our team has a lot of potential this year. We work really
hard in practice and have shown improvement already from day one. We had a great jamboree
match to start out the season, and we know what we have to improve on. I'm really excited to
see all the things that our team will accomplish this season!"
