LHS Sophomores Job Shadow a Variety of Career Fields

On December 6th, the sophomore class at Leigh High School traveled to Columbus and
Norfolk to job shadow a career field that they would be potentially interested in.
The experience was part of the required sophomore Careers class. Through this class,
the sophomores study all of the different career field clusters, take numerous personal
inventories to see which careers they would be suited for, and listen to various guest speakers
who are all Leigh alumni working in their field who talk to the class throughout the semester.
Many students in this year’s class were interested in the healthcare field. Brianne Kuhr
shadowed at Columbus Community Hospital, Ella Urban visited Wiggles and Giggles, and Izzy
Hollatz spent the day at Columbus Medical Center. Baylee Settje shadowed Fountain Point
Medical Center, Brynn Settje shadowed at Dynamic Life Therapy and Wellness, and Keeley
Campbell shadowed at Top Notch Home Health Care.
In addition to healthcare, other students were interested in a variety of career fields.
Kammy Held shadowed the ag teacher at Lakeview Community Schools. Paige Kurpgeweit
visited Columbus Fire and Rescue. Alisyn Lich visited Home for Funerals (Norfolk); Riley Van
Dyke visited West Point Implement. Amaiya Ross spent the day at Royal Image Spa and Nails.
Delanie Erwin visited USDA Rural Development, Emily Stender shadowed at Ideal HTML Web
Design, and Jared Olson and Carter Brabec both shadowed at AKRS Equipment Solutions.
Riley Van Dyke, a sophomore at Leigh High School, stated, “I enjoyed the job
shadowing. I got to see something that I might be interested in the future. This was a great
experience.”
The instructor of the Careers class, Mrs. Megan Hillen, said, “The sophomores at Leigh
are so fortunate to have the opportunity to complete job shadows this early in their high school
careers. It really helps some of them confirm their career interests while allowing others to
explore one of their options. Thank you to all the Columbus and Norfolk businesses that allowed
students from Leigh to job shadow.”
