Tanyn Larson, Baylee Settje, Ava Kasik Win “Student of the Month”

Every month Leigh High School honors three “Students of the Month” that teachers nominate and then the whole staff votes on.  In April, the three winning recipients were Tanyn Larson, Baylee Settje, and Ava Kasik.

The first recipient is junior Tanyn Larson. Tanyn is the daughter of Bob and Kelsey Larson. Tanyn’s grandparents are Rick and Lorie Larson of Creston and Bill and Georgia Klassen of Lindsay.

Tanyn has been involved in many activities throughout high school, which include volleyball, track, FCCLA, YAC, One-Act, yearbook, and journalism.

Her favorites hobbies are hanging with friends and family and shopping. Her favorite class is the Relationships class taught by Mrs. Hillen because she finds it interesting.

She has future plans to attend Northeast Community College for Nursing.

Tanyn has received this award two times in previous years and had this to say about winning again: “It feels very rewarding to receive this award. It feels great to be recognized by the teachers at our school!”

Tanyn’s nominating teacher said, “Tanyn is a fantastic student leader in our school.  She is always hard-working, always positive, and always has a smile on her face that is contagious to those around her.”

The second award winner was Baylee Settje. Baylee is the daughter of Chad and Kristi Settje. She is the granddaughter of Judy and the late Gary Blessen, Mike and Cindy Settje, and Tom and Sue Kabes.

Baylee has been involved in volleyball, basketball, track, FCCLA, FBLA, YAC, One-Act, and journalism. Her favorite hobbies are playing sports and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite class is FCS.

After high school she wants to do something along the lines of social work.

This is Baylee’s second time winning “Student of the Month.”

“It feels amazing, and I am honored to be able to win this award. I am very excited to see that all my hard work and dedication has paid off this school year in my classes and extracurricular activities.”

Baylee’s nominating teacher said, “Baylee works really hard in school and in all her extracurriculars.  She always goes the extra mile and puts in the extra effort.  Her grades are outstanding, she is fun to have in class, and she always has a positive attitude.”

The third winner is Ava Kasik. Ava is the daughter of Joe and Heather Kasik. She is the granddaughter of Lawrence and Marilyn Kasik and Fredrick and Alice Krenk.

She participates in many activities, including volleyball, basketball, track, dance, FFA, One-Act, journalism, and YAC. Her favorite classes are English and Art.

Outside of school Ava enjoys going on runs, spending time with family or friends, and shopping.

Ava is not sure what she wants to do after high school but has recently had thoughts of nursing. This is her first time winning the award. “It feels great that I'm being recognized for my work in both classes and my extracurriculars,” she said.

Ava’s nominating teacher said, “Ava is a fairly quiet student, so she leads by example.  She is always kind to others and has a great attitude. Furthermore, she works extremely hard in the classroom and her extracurriculars and has already experienced great successes as a freshman.”

Congratulations to this month’s winners!
