Up, up, and away!
On Wednesday, April 26th, the Leigh Elementary second and third grade students made a trip to Ashland, Nebraska. On this field trip, 36 students were able to take part in the fun experience of visiting the Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum.
At the museum they tested orbits of planets using different sized balls in gravity wells. The students loved looking at the airplanes and going in the B52 cockpit to be pilots. Then, the students learned about craters and tested out making craters in gravel, kinetic sand, and dirt.
Third grade student Kalyn Beller had the opportunity to see a plane her grandpa Dean Urban worked on during the Vietnam War.
Kalyn said, “It was so much fun. I was so surprised to see how big the plane that grandpa worked on was!”
Third grade teacher Mrs. Kim Loseke said, "It was so fun to eat our lunches under the wings of an airplane. We all enjoyed exploring the different areas of the museum and learning about space and airplanes."
