JH Track Finds Success at Conference Meet

8th Grade Boys Runner-Up, 8th Grade Girls Champion!

The Clarkson-Leigh Junior High track team competed in their final and most important meet of the year—the East Husker Conference track meet. The conference was split in half, which meant the Patriots were one of 7 total teams at the meet that was hosted at Twin River on May 5, 2023. 

Overall it was a great way to finish their season!  The seventh graders struggled getting points on the board, but in the end the 7th grade girls tied for 6th place at 31 points, and the 7th grade boys took 5th place with 46 points.  

The 8th graders fared really well, with the 8th grade boys finishing in 2nd place as a team with 95 points, and the 8th grade girls were Conference champions with 132 points!

For the seventh-grade boys, finishing in the top 3 for the Patriots in their events were Aiden Jurgenson, who finished 3rd in the 200M Hurdles; Owen Schnoor, who placed 2nd in High Jump; Eason Brabec, who placed 3rd in High Jump; and Hunter Gall, who finished 2nd in Shot Put.

For the seventh-grade girls, finishing in the top 3 was Soleece Jensen, who took 1st in the High Jump, and Lainey Urban, who finished 2nd in High Jump. 

In the eighth-grade division, the boys’ team saw Blake Loseke earn 1st in the 200M Dash, 1st in the 400M Dash, and 2nd in the 100M Dash.  Ben Rodenburg finished 3rd in the 800M Run.  Colton Steffensmeier finished 3rd in both Long and Triple Jump, while Cody Jedlicka took 2nd in Shot Put.  The boys also dominated the relays with the 4x1 team of Loseke, Jedlicka, Steffensmeier, and Max McATee finishing 1st, and the 4x4 team of Rodenburg, McAtee, Jeryn Struebing, and James Moore also taking 1st. 

The eighth-grade girls landed many in the top 3, including Maizie Stoklasa, who placed 1st in all 4 of her events, including 100M Dash, 200M Dash, Triple Jump, and 4x1 Relay.  Kaylee Brabec finished 3rd in the 400M Dash, Reann Bruhn took 2nd in the mile run.  Claire Holoubek finished 1st in 100M Hurdles and 2nd in Triple Jump. In the Discus Throw, Becca Hastreiter finished 2nd, while Emersyn Urban took 3rd.  The 4x1 Relay of Stoklasa, Holoubek, Ella Baumert, and Reese Wietfeld took 1st, while the 4x4 Relay of Bruhn Wietfeld, Carmen Malena and Gracie Sortino took 3rd.

"Conference is the most important meet of the year for junior high,” said track coach Andy Bachman.  “We had some rain and cool temperatures in the morning that turned into sun and nice temperatures in the afternoon. Our athletes hit some good marks and had a lot of PR's. It was great to see the 8th grade girls win conference and the 8th grade boys finishing as runner ups.”
