Great New Program, Great New Teacher!

For the first time, Leigh Community Schools is offering a new CNA program for students interested in the health career field to participate in!

Along with this exciting new program comes a fantastic new teacher at Leigh Schools—Mrs. Spring Wendt!

In 2022 the school was fortunate enough to receive the Perkins reVISION Action Grant. This grant provides funding for Career and Technical Education. Through the grant, LCS has been able to purchase equipment, textbooks, training, and other supplies needed to improve their Science and Technical Education offerings.

With this grant, the school implemented a new CNA program through Central Community College. The grant used $26,000 towards this program to purchase equipment and supplies for the class.

Currently there are 4 seniors taking the class with a maximum of six students possible any semester. The class is a semester long, but takes more time each day compared to a typical class at Leigh. Students will be able to obtain their Certified Nursing Assistant license upon completion of the course, something they would have to pay for and spend long hours at night taking if they were to do it on their own.

The CNA class is being taught by long-time nurse and familiar face in the Leigh community, Mrs. Spring Wendt. Mrs. Wendt is no stranger to the Leigh area, as she and her husband, Terry Wendt, raised their family here. She has one daughter Rachel (Wendt) Malena, and two sons Eric and Zach Wendt. She also has 9 grandchildren who all attend school at Leigh!

Mrs. Wendt said, “I’m excited to have this opportunity to teach the Nursing Assistant Class and get Nursing Assistants ready to work in the medical field!”
