One-Act play concludes season

The Leigh One Act play wrapped up their season with a busy final week that began with their large community showing on Sunday November 26.  This year they tried something new called “Drama and Desserts” that they hope to make an annual tradition.

The desserts and hot chocolate started at 6:30 for anyone from the community who wanted to see Leigh One Act perform “Elf.”

“Elf” starred Luke Eisenmann as Buddy, Jordan Noonan as Walter Hobbs, Gracie Eisenmann as Emily Hobbs, Brianne Kuhr as Michael Hobbs, Gabriel Pinkston as Jovie, Tanyn Larson as Deb the Assistant, and many other interesting characters. Nearly every single student in the high school was involved in either cast or crew, and it was the biggest community performance crowd ever.

Then on Wednesday November 29, Leigh competed at districts on their home stage.

This year the students have put in a lot of time and effort in perfecting the play. There were a lot of early mornings and late nights practicing. Despite their best performance of the season at districts, Leigh One Act ended up getting third to end their season. The top three teams all each earned a #1 ranking from one of the judges, but it wasn’t enough for Leigh to take the top spot.  East Butler won the district, and McCool Junction placed 2nd.

Many students took home acting awards at districts, including Luke Eisenmann, Gracie Eisenmann, Jordan Noonan, Tanyn Larson, Brianne Kuhr, Gabriel Pinkston, Baylee Settje, Reese Wietfeld, Vylet Hollatz, Carmen Malena, Jack Brabec, James Grotelueschen, and Sydney Messerlie.

Leigh also received the first-place plaque for best tech team and stage crew.

“I am so proud of our student body for the time and effort they put into this play, and I’m proud of the way it turned out,” Director Justine Fischer said.  We gave it our all and it didn’t turn out the way we wanted at districts, but it was a show to remember!  This group of kids was so positive and so hard-working, and I’m bummed we didn’t get to move on to the next level, because if any group of kids deserved it, it’s this group!”

“One-Act was an awesome experience this year, and we all worked really hard,” senior Jordan Noonan said.  “Unfortunately, we didn’t get the final results we wanted, but will definitely still be a lasting memory for us all.”
