For new FCCLA members, the best way to become familiar with the organization is to attend the District Leadership Conference, or DLC. This year’s DLC was held on Tuesday, October 20 at Central Community College in Columbus.

This year, 20 members and 1 advisor from the Clarkson-Leigh FCCLA chapter attended the conference.

“The focus of this year’s conference was relationships,” FCCLA advisor Mrs. Megan Hillen said.  “The members left the conferences with new knowledge about personal and healthy relationships. It was a great experience for all.”

FCCLA members attended seminars throughout the day with students from 12 other chapters. Many members from the Clarkson-Leigh chapter cited the “Revolution” session as the best one.  A group did a play that showcased three couples, all with different problems, including peer pressure and abuse.  The final couple exhibited a happy, healthy relationship.

Sophomore Kristina Mayorga said her favorite session was one called “Flower Pots and Families.”  In this session, each group broke a clay flower pot then used masking tape to put it back together to represent how easily families can fall apart, and how hard they can be to fix.

“It was a fun learning environment and was great for all FCCLA members to experience,” Mayorga said.
