Senior Spotlight: Garrett Schroeder
February 19, 2000, was an amazing day for Russ and Cathy Schroeder. Garrett Matthew Schroeder was brought into the world in West Point, Nebraska.
The younger of the two children, Garrett has an older brother, Riley, age 20. The Schroeder family also wouldn’t be complete without their dog Max.
To get to know this senior a little bit better, Garrett says the three best words to describe him are “nice, funny, and hard-working.” His worst bad habit is “procrastinating.”
Garrett has many favorite things. His favorite subject in school is social studies. His favorite TV show is King of Queens, his favorite movie is Lone Survivor, his favorite song is “In Color” by Jamey Johnson, and his favorite restaurant is Raisin’ Canes.
His favorite sports teams are the Cubs, Packers, Redwings, Huskers, and Golden State Warriors.
When asked whom he admires most in the world, Garrett said he admires Jordan Speith for being a very good golfer and good role model.
Throughout high school, Garrett has been involved in golf, basketball, One-Act, FFA, and band for four years. He has also been a member of the Leigh Youth Advisory Committee for one year. He is a member of St. Mary’s Church.
Garrett has received honors in many activities. He has been a part of the two State Champion and two State Runner-Up One Act team for the past four years. Garrett has also been selected for four straight years in EHC Honor Band, and he placed first gold in Proficiency at districts with FFA.
With his many accomplishments, Garrett says his proudest high school moment was being called on stage for placing second at state FFA Convention for Proficiency.
After high school, Garrett intends to major in Ag Business at either Northeast Community College or Wayne State College.
Three goals on Garrett’s bucket list are to graduate college, travel outside the U.S., and buy his own house. If he could travel anywhere in the world, he would want to visit Iceland to see the Northern lights.
After college, in 10-15 years, Garrett sees himself living around Leigh and working in an ag-related job. If he is fortunate to win the lottery, he intends to give some money to his family and friends and buy a big house.
He inspirational advice to underclassmen is a quote from the TV show, The Office: “The only time you should set the bar low is for limbo.”
Congratulations and good luck, Garrett!
