Cyclones Kick Off the Year 2-1 at Wayne Invite

Saturday, August 24, marked the first tournament of the season for the Highway 91 Cyclone Softball Team. The team was eager to kick off their season at the Wayne Invite. Throughout the day, the team played Centura-Central Valley Diamonds, Wayne Blue Devils, and Twin River Titans.

During their first game against Centura-Central, they were able to hold the team to a minimum of 1 point until the 4 inning. Although the Diamonds scored more runs than the Cyclones would have liked, the Cyclones were still able to come back and pull out the win! The final score of the game was 8-7, Cyclone victory!

Their second game consisted of playing the Wayne Blue Devils. This team was a little more challenging for the Cyclones. After battling against the Blue Devils, the Cyclones fell short and lost with the ending score of 0-10, first Cyclone loss.

They weren’t going to let their loss keep them from fighting. It just gave them more incentive to take their game to the next level! Their last game was against the Twin River Titans. The team had a slow start giving them a run in the first and third inning. They knew at this point they needed to step up their game, and that’s exactly what they did. During the fourth and fifth inning, the Cyclones scored run after run, not giving the Titans the chance to answer back! The final score of the game was 10-2, another Cyclone victory!

Junior Kyleigh Rayback said, “I was happy with the way we battled until the end during every game. Everything we worked for is finally paying off, and I can’t wait to see where the season takes us!”

Head Coach Adam Indra said, “Overall great team effort.  It’s always exciting and such a good feeling whenever you can bring hardware home from that level of a tourney with a 3rd place finish. This is a very exciting group of girls that truly enjoy being around each other. Thank you for everyone’s support. It means a lot to the girls and our program.”

The Cyclones finished 3rd in the tournament and Wayne took 1st.
