Leigh Travel Club Hosts One-Act Dinner Theater

(L to R): Carson Ahrens, Logan Schroeder, and Kanyon Held run from a pack of dogs during their wild journey.

Between the “Hound Dog” and “Stone Soup,” the audience at the annual One-Act Dinner Theater had their hands full…full of applause that is.

On the evening of November 24, the Leigh Travel Club provided a delicious fettuccine meal as a fundraiser for their planned trip to Italy in the summer of 2021.  After dinner, the high school One-Act team performed Travels and Travails of a Trio. A story of three escaped prisoners—Kanyon Held, Carson Ahrens, and Logan Schroeder—who travel across the country seeking their so called “epiphany” as described to them by a fortune teller.

Also, in a special guest appearance, the first and second graders performed their own musical called Stone Soup Rock Opera. All students in both classes participated, and everyone certainly put in a lot of time, effort, and fun to make it a success.

Kim Bruhn, the first-grade teacher, said, “I thought the first and second grade did a wonderful job with their performance of Stone Soup Rock Opera. They all worked very hard learning their lines and songs. Thanks to the parents, they were all dressed adorable. It is important to expose children to the fine arts at a young age as it may spark an interest as they get older. It is our hope that these children will one day be performing in the high school one-act, which once again this year was awesome!”

All of this was held at the Leigh High School, and the gym was certainly packed full of parents, teachers, and community members.

Head One-Act coach Kylie Hollatz said, “The One Act Dinner Theater was a great night full of great performances and food. Thank you to the Travel Club for the delicious meal and the first and second graders for being our opening act. We have some future one-actors and actresses!  Also, thanks to all of the parents, grandparents, and community members who attended the event. Great job One-Act cast and crew and thanks for all of your hard work.”

The One-Act team will be back in action at 11:15 am on December 4th for the district competition in Lyons.
