Senior Spotlight: Taya Gross

It was a very special day for Michael Gross and Wendy Bachman on December 26, 2001, in Ida Grove, Iowa. This was the day their last child and first daughter, Taya Judith Gross, was brought into this world. Taya moved to Leigh from Iowa in the sixth grade.

Taya is the youngest of three children. She has two older brothers, including Tanner (26) and Justin (30). Her grandparents are Russell and Judith Bubke of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Eugene Gross of Battle Creek, Iowa. The Gross family would not be complete without her three dogs, Ellie, Sadie, and Ollie; and their three cats, Callie, Olivia, and Missy.

Throughout Taya’s high school career, she has been extremely busy in various activities.  She has participated in dance for 15 years, gymnastics/tumbling for 11 years, FCCLA for 6 years, 4-H and Youth Advisory Committee for 3 years; and volleyball and track for 2 years.

When she isn’t busy with these activities, Taya enjoys dancing or hanging out with friends.

Taya describes herself as fun, short-tempered, and quiet. Her biggest pet peeves are hearing other people chew or gulp water, and being asked a lot of questions.

One person who Taya admires in her life is her grandma.

“She has worked hard to get where she has in life by starting her own business,” Taya said. “She has a lot of determination and she likes to say that she has a lot of the same qualities as her.”

Taya’s favorite subject in school is Family and Consumer Science.  She especially enjoys Parenting and Child Development classes. Her favorite TV show is “The Ranch” and Ohio State is her favorite sports team. Her favorite song is “Something We Do” by Chad Brownlee, and her favorite restaurant is Panda Express.

Taya says she has so too many favorite high school memories to count, but if she had to pick just one, it would be “when we were at One-Act practice, everyone heard a loud thud that turned out to be Reagan falling down the stairs.”

After high school Taya plans to attend Wayne State College. She will major in Special Education.

If you were to ask Taya where she saw herself in 10-15 years, she would most likely say working as a special education teacher and hopefully married and starting a family.

Aside from becoming a Special Education teacher, Taya would love to travel the U.S. and build her own house.

We sure hope she can achieve all these dreams some day!

Best of luck to you in the future, Taya!
