Outstanding Turnout for Leigh Festival of Lights!

By: Tanyn Larson, a freshman at Leigh High School

On Sunday, December 13, the Leigh-Clarkson FCCLA Chapter partnered with the Leigh Community Club to put on a new event: the Leigh Festival of Lights.

This event took place from 5-8 p.m. and featured freestanding light displays from various businesses, families, and community groups at the Leigh Centennial Park.  A total of 15 light displays were set up for anyone to come drive through and look at.

The event was the idea of the FCCLA chapter who was unable to celebrate their annual Family Christmas banquet due to Covid-19.

“This was a great experience for our chapter to be a part of,” freshman Macy Clausen said.  “It was a nice way for us to spread the cheer of Christmas in a safe, socially distanced way!”

The Leigh FCCLA wanted to thank the Leigh Community Club for helping put on the event. They also wanted to thank Norma’s Kitchen, Park Place, and Timberwolf for opening up their restaurants during the Festival of Lights and allowing people to grab a bite to eat after looking at the displays. Finally, they wish to thank all the businesses and organizations who participated!

FCCLA adviser Mrs. Megan Hillen said, “The Festival of Lights was a wonderful success! We were happy we could still provide an opportunity for our members, their families, and our community to gather during the pandemic this holiday season.  We had an outstanding turnout with so many families driving through to see the displays!”
