Leigh Speech Team Kicks Off Season with Meet at Schuyler

The Leigh Speech team traveled to Schuyler for the first speech meet of the 2021 season on Saturday February 6th. The speech team has a new coach this year, Ms. Shelby Paprocki.
The team has seven freshmen, one sophomore, one junior and two seniors. All of the members are excited to see what the new season will bring.
Coach Shelby Paprocki had to say, “For it being our first meet and only having a couple of practices I think all the students did very well. We can only go up here, and I’m excited to see how far they will come at the end of the season.”
Even though none of the members made it to the finals on Saturday, they were glad to go and get some experience for future speech meets. This speech season is also exciting because it is in person and not virtual.
Being a veteran on the speech team, senior Emily Loseke had some input on the speech meet:
"Our first meet was very rewarding. While we didn't have anyone make finals, everyone had high ratings and presented really well for the first meet. A special shout-out to our seven freshmen who had the courage to join the team and who I feel will be really successful this year and in future years as well. I'm extremely thankful for this opportunity, and I'm excited to see how everyone improves and rocks the rest of the season!"
