2020-2021 Leigh FFA Banquet a Success

By: Makenna Held, a junior at Leigh High School

The Leigh 2020-2021 FFA Banquet was a true success.

It was held April 30th at the gym at 6 pm. All members and their families came, and even some community members were present as well.

The night started off with a welcoming by the Chapter President and a prayer by the Parliamentarian before dinner began.

Dinner was catered by Wunderlichs in Columbus and included roast beef, cheesy hash browns, green beans, dinner rolls, and cake. Following the meal, opening ceremonies were held, and guest speaker Mike Malena gave a keynote address.

A video showcasing the FFA organization throughout the year was presented following the guest speaker.

After the video came awards that were earned from the members throughout the year. Some special awards included most active members from each class and members of the year. The active members from each grade included Kammy Held in junior high, Taya Hambleton for the freshman, Sydney Reeves for the sophomores, Madison Noonan for the juniors, and Alissa Kasik for the seniors. The Member of the Year award was a three-way tie between Taya Hambleton, Madison Noonan, and Makenna Held.

Following the award ceremony the worker auction was held. Every member was sold and will be completing their working hours when they are asked by their buyer. This was a great fundraiser for the chapter and a great experience opportunity for each member.

Retiring of the seniors’ jackets came after the worker auction. Each senior had a short clip that they presented in a video, and they retired the jackets they have worn throughout their high school career. This was a special moment for each senior.

The final two events of the night included the election of the 2021-2022 officer team and closing ceremonies presented by them. The new officer team included Jordan Noonan as junior advisor, Dalton Zulkoski as Parliamentarian, Jacob Eisenmann as Sentinel, Sydney Reeves as reporter, Justine Thompson as Historian, Taya Hambleton as Secretary, Kanyon Held as Treasurer, Makenna Held as Vice-President, and Madison Noonan as President. The new officer team closed off the eventful night with closing ceremonies.

Alissa Kasik, senior, said "The annual FFA banquet was a success. It's always great to see all the community members come and support our chapter. Mrs. Went did a great job, and we even had some new activities including the introduction of officers and the retiring of our jackets for us seniors. It made it even more enjoyable for our families and the community.”

The FFA Banquet was a great success and a big thanks to everyone in the community who has helped the organization throughout the year. It was a fantastic year! Good luck to our seniors in their next chapter of life.
