Colfax Co. Extension Office Holds Ag Literacy Dag at Fairgrounds
On May 29th, both third grade classes from Leigh got the opportunity to go to the fairgrounds in Leigh to learn more about agriculture in Nebraska.
Each year, the extension office in Colfax County holds Ag Literacy Day which is open to all third-grade students in Colfax County. This year, third grade students from Clarkson, Leigh, Schuyler, and St. Wenceslaus attended.
The students had different stations they rotated through, each covering a different topic. Students got to learn about beef and dairy cattle, entomology, corn and soybeans, swine, poultry, and agricultural technology seeing drones. Additionally, students were able to see a reticulated cow.
FFA students from Leigh, Schuyler, and Clarkson also helped teach the lessons and lead groups through stations.
Third grader Brylen Wietfeld said, “My favorite thing was holding the chicks. I also like putting my hand into the reticulated cow."
