Pinkston and Kuhr Medal at Conference Speech

The East Husker Conference speech meet is always a fun-filled tournament with excellent competition each year, and this year was no exception.

On Wednesday February 23, the Leigh High School Speech team attended the Conference Speech meet in Stanton. The team members who competed were sophomores Taya Hambleton, Gabriel Pinkston, Sage Fernau, and Aubrie Hanna; and freshmen Paige Kurpgeweit and Brianne Kuhr. 

Freshman Brianne Kuhr said, “The Conference Speech meet was a big meet for our team because it’s the last meet before districts. It really gave us an insight on what we all need to touch up on in our speeches. It was also great to compete with people around the area.”

Sophomore Taya Hambleton and freshman Brianne Kuhr competed with their duet called “How to Survive a Horror Movie.” Sophomore Gabriel Pinkston competed with “Fairytale Courtroom” and freshman Brianne Kuhr competed with ‘Humpty Dumpty Egg-splodes” competed in Humorous Prose. Sophomore Aubrie Hanna competed with “Girl” and freshman Paige Kurpgeweit competed with “It’s Fine, I’m Fine Everything is Fine” in poetry. Sage Fernau competed in Serious Prose with her piece called “After the Death of Anna Gonzales.”

Gabriel Pinkston and Brianne Kuhr made it to finals. In finals Brianne placed sixth and Gabriel placed fifth!

Head Coach Mrs. Madison Gall said “We have a large conference with many talented schools, it was great to see Brianne and Gabe make it to finals!”

Humphrey High won the Conference title.
