15 Qualify for State FCCLA STAR
On Wednesday, January 25, 2023, FCCLA STAR districts were held in Humphrey. There were 18 people that participated in STAR this year for the Leigh Chapter.
STAR stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition. The FCCLA STAR participants went to Humphrey to present their STAR projects against students from 10 other chapters.
STAR Events recognize members for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through cooperative, individualized, and competitive activities. District 5 hosted 26 events during the conference.
Students are evaluated by judges using a rubric system and have the opportunity to earn a Gold, Silver, or Bronze rating. The top two finishers in each event level, who earn a Silver or Gold rating, qualify to compete at the state competition, which will be hosted as part of the State Leadership Conference.
To qualify for state, you have to get 1st or 2nd in your category and get above a bronze. This year 8 out of the 9 groups from Leigh qualified for state!
Macy Clausen, a junior at Leigh High School said, “We had a very successful day in Humphrey. Throughout the week many STAR participants were working hard in Mrs. Hillen’s room, and I think all that qualified for state deserve the medal they received.”
Leigh’s FCCLA adviser Megan Hillen said, “I am very proud of the Leigh students that competed in the district STAR competition. They worked really hard to complete their projects and represent our chapter in a positive light.”
