Class of 2023 Senior Spotlight: Mason Whitmore

On February 15th, 2005, in Columbus, NE, Craig Whitmore and Kacy Wietfeld were blessed with the birth of their son, Mason Ryan Whitmore.

In addition to his parents, Mason has two step parents, Brent Wietfeld and Nicole Whitmore. Along with that, he also has six half-siblings: Brylen (7); Braxen (6); and Evan Wietfeld (4), as well as Alexa (11) and Ellica Whitmore (3), and Karissa Nickolite (26).

Mason’s grandparents are Kelly Arndt of Platte Center and Steven Jenny of Columbus. Mason’s family wouldn’t be complete without his dog, Stella.

If you don’t know Mason, three words that he describes himself with are funny, outgoing, and friendly. Mason has been involved in many sports and activities throughout his four years of high school. He has been a part of football, basketball, and FFA for four years; Youth Advisory Committee for three years; and track and FCCLA for one year.

Mason states that his biggest high school accomplishment was winning the State Championship against Neligh-Oakdale. Throughout his years in high school, he has received several achievements and accolades. He has received 1st team All-District for football and “Student of the Month.”

Mason claims that his favorite high school memory was watching Mr. Faltys make his school debut by attempting to slide on the ground, but instead, he ended up flopping and ripping his shirt. His most embarrassing high school moment was wearing Mrs. Hillen’s old cheer uniform in front of the whole school during the Homecoming pep rally.

Mason’s favorite things to do outside of school and extracurricular activities are hanging out with friends, hunting, or working. His favorite class in school is shop class. Creed 2 is his favorite movie and the Los Angeles Lakers are his favorite sports team. Mason’s favorite food is chicken alfredo.

Mason’s future plans include attending Wayne State College. There he will be going to school for Industrial Technology/Construction Management. In 10-15 years, Mason hopes to have a family and own his own business.

If Mason won the lottery, he claims he will pay off all of his loans then donate money to people in need. Three things on Mason’s bucket list would be to go skydiving, take a trip and go hunting for bears, and visit another country. If he would go anywhere in the world, he would travel to the Bahamas because the weather there is a lot nicer than it is here.

Mason admires his parents most in his life. He claims they have always helped him with problems in his life and have always been there for him. He also states that they have all taught him many life lessons.

Mason’s life advice to underclassmen is “Don't tell yourself you’ll do it later because you probably won’t!”

We wish Mason the best of luck with is future and all he hopes to accomplish!
