CL Track Team Brings Home 4 Medals!

As one of the special milestones marking the end of the school year, the Nebraska State Track and Field Championships were held at Omaha Burke Stadium on May 19-20, 2023.

The Patriot track team competed in Class C and had 5 athletes qualify in 7 events.

Trey Steffensmeier was the lone qualifier for the boys’ team.  Though he did not make the finals in Long Jump, he jumped well at 18-09.75.

Sophomore Brynn Settje qualified in Triple Jump and Long Jump, and although she did not make finals in either event, she represented the Patriots well, jumping 33-06.00 in Triple and 15-08.25 in Long, good enough for 17th and 16th place in those events respectively.

Junior Chloe Hanel had a great state track meet after qualifying in all 4 of her events.  She finished as the state runner-up in High Jump with a jump of 5-04.00, just behind Sarah Spahr of Milford, who jumped 5-06.

Hanel also made waves in the hurdles, finishing 3rd in the 100M Hurdles with a time of 15.28, and 5th in 300M Hurdles with a time of 47.32.

Finally, the girls’ 4x100 relay team, consisting of Hanel and Settje, along with junior Tanyn Larson and senior Korbee Wendt, as well as freshman alternate Ava Kasik, finished in 6th place with a time of 50.91 seconds. This was their best time of the season!

With all their medals, the girls’ team finished 13th as a team overall in Class C!

Head girls’ track coach Bri Wietfeld said, “Another season has come and gone, and it was great to end it at Burke.  These kids did some great things and were fun to watch!  They all worked very hard!  We want to say a great thank you to our senior Korbee Wendt.  We will miss you and what you bring to our team!  We wish all our athletes a great summer, and we will see you in fall sports!”
