Five Qualify for State at District Track!

The last track meet of the season for many of the Patriot athletes was the District C-3 meet held on Thursday, May 11, in Wisner.

The district meet has huge implications, giving athletes the opportunity to qualify for state.  The top 2 in individual events and top relay team qualifies for state.  Athletes can also qualify if they have one of the next fastest times in their class from across the state.

The Patriots competed against Wisner-Pilger, Bancroft-Rosalie, GACC, Logan View, Madison, Oakland-Craig, Omaha Nation, Stanton, and Tekamah-Herman.

The Patriots have faced many of these schools throughout the season, so this was their chance to do their best and beat the when it counted.

The weather was nice and sunny, and at the end of the day, the Patriots had many athletes qualify for finals and finish in the top 6, and the girls’ team even had five state qualifiers!

The Patriots that qualified for State are Brynn Settje, Chloe Hanel, Tanyn Larson, Korbee Wendt, and Trey Steffensmeier. Settje will be competing in Long and High Jump, along with 4x100M Relay. Hanel qualified in all her events and will compete in High Jump, 100M Hurdles, 300M Hurdles, and 4x100M Relay. Larson and Wendt will also compete in the 4x1. Finally, for the boys, Steffensmeier will compete in Long Jump.

As a team, the girls placed 3rd overall! Unfortunately, the boys’ finished in last place overall as a team. Oakland-Craig was district champion for both boys and girls.

State qualifier, Brynn Settje, shared her thoughts on how she thought the track meet went. She said, “I thought that the track meet went very well for everyone that competed. I got very nervous going into the meet because I knew that this was the meet that could get you to state. It was a busy day, and everyone did the best that they could do.”

Head Coach, Briana Wietfeld, said, “Great weather brought us great results. District track was another exciting day for the Patriots. All athletes performed well. With much preparation and determination, Brynn Chloe Trey, Tanyn, and Korbee qualified for state at this meet. Our 4x100 girls hit another PR flying around the track. Our jumpers did some great things as well. We are ready to show up for state!”
