Two Students Selected for Honor Band

Halee Bovee, a sophomore from Clarkson, and Alicia Holmberg, a junior from Leigh, were both selected to play their flutes at East Husker Conference Honor Band.

On February 10, two students from the Clarkson-Leigh band attended the Honor Band Conference at Wayne State College.

Haley Bovee participated in the Wind Ensemble and Alicia Holmberg was chosen as a member of the Symphonic Band. The students traveled to Wayne to practice their instruments and perform for a large group of people.

Both students had to audition and were selected to take part in the experience.

"Honor Band at Wayne was a great day,” Holmberg said. “I really enjoyed being able to sit around and play my flute all day. It was fun to meet and be around kids from other schools in our conference. I also enjoyed the pieces of music I was able to play during practice and at the concert at night."

Honor Band was hosted by Scribner-Snyder and was held at Wayne State College.  Dr. David Bohnert of WSC conducted the Wind Ensemble and Rob Hartung from Bennington High School conducted the Symphonic Band.

“The day overall was fantastic,” Clarkson-Leigh band director Mrs. Liz Kowalski said.  “The kids learned a lot from the directors and gave a wonderful concert at the end of the day. Not only is this a good event for the kids to go to and work with other kids from different schools, but it is a way for the directors to talk and collaborate ideas.”
