EHC Honor Choir a Long-Awaited Success!

By: Leah Pinkston, a freshman at Leigh High School

The EHC Choir Clinic held at the Nielsen Center in West Point was an event originally scheduled for November 2020, but it was postponed to Monday, March 15, due to COVID-19 precautions.

Thankfully, the event went off without a hitch on the 15th, allowing the 15-student Clarkson-Leigh choir to attend. Clarkson-Leigh had 15 students selected to the All-Conference Choir.  There were 9 other schools attending, which made for a 200-person combined choir.

The songs sung by both the EHC choir and the Clarkson/Leigh choir are as follows: “Cantar,” “The Star Spangled Banner,” “April Is In My Mistress Face,” “Shut De Do,” “Things That Never Die,” and “Give Us Hope” (which was performed exclusively by the Clarkson/Leigh choir).

The Patriot choir also had four members who qualified for the prestigious Elite Choir, including Rylee Olson, Alicia Holmberg, and Audie Tejkl of Leigh, as well as Isaac Baumert of Clarkson.  Makenna Held and Albert Diaz were selected as alternates.

Junior Natalie Brabec of Leigh was one of the All-Conference participants.

"I had a great time at the choir clinic,” Brabec said, “and I am happy that we were able to have it even with all of the restrictions. I loved being able to sing with a big group. I think that it was a great experience, especially with the district music contest coming up soon."

The resident Choir teacher, Mrs. Cindy Settje, also said, “I am so glad that we were able to have the East Husker Conference Clinic after it was originally postponed. These students worked so hard on the auditions and music, so it was finally a chance for them to enjoy an Honor Choir and perform.  I was so proud of all the students who auditioned, and especially those 15 selected for All-Conference. Getting 4 students and 2 alternates into the Elite Choir was also beyond my expectations, so I can’t thank the students enough. The Nielsen Center was an awesome facility to host the Conference and the grand piano that I got to play was very elegant.  It all made for a perfect day!”
