On March 8, 2023, ten high school and junior high FFA students participated at a Livestock Judging competition. This event was held in York, Nebraska, and was a great opportunity for students to grow their knowledge on judging animals.

This event had 9 different classes of livestock including four calf classes, one sheep class, two pig classes, and two goat classes. They also were required to give a set of reasons over Hereford Replacement Heifers and answer five questions on six classes of livestock.

Carmen Malena, an 8th grader who participated and earned 1st place overall in the junior high division, stated, “It was a super fun time with lots of competition. We worked together really good as a team.”

“I’m extremely proud of how the kids judged at this competition,” stated Alyssa Went, FFA Advisor. The livestock was tough and the competition was fierce. I’m looking forward to watch these kids continue to improve judging.”
