Wrestlers Head West
Launch the media gallery 1 playerThe Patriot wrestling team traveled west for their annual two-tournament weekend on Friday, January 5th and Saturday, January 6th. They wrestled at Burwell on Friday and Amherst on Saturday.
Senior Andrew Rivera said, “It was a long weekend of competition with two hard tournaments, with our wrestlers showing great effort the whole time.”
First up was the Burwell Invite—a tough tournament full of good wrestlers. The Patriots had three medalists: 120-pounder Morgan Bunner went 3-2 and finished 4th, 285-pounder Andrew Rivera went 3-2 and also finished 4th, and 285-pounder Levi Gall went 4-0 and got 1st place. The team finished with 45 points.
After this, the team spent the night in Kearney before traveling to Amherst for another day of competition, and the same three medalists finished on top again. Bunner went 3-1, earning 3rd. Rivera finished 3-1, also earning 3rd, and Gall finished 2-1 for runner-up. The team finished with 40 points.
Congratulations to senior Morgan Bunner on earning his 100th career win at this tournament!
Head coach Tyler Reeves said, “I thought we wrestled well at both tournaments. We saw a lot of success and good things that we’ve been learning in practice and it showed in our performance. We did start off a little slow at Amherst, but we wrestled back like we do every year.”
