Cyclones Start the Season Off

After losing three seniors from the previous year, the Highway 91 Cyclone softball team is rebuilding their team and getting the season started!

This year they have 14 athletes participating, including two seniors, Cassi Rayback from Leigh and Kylee Compton from Howells- Dodge.

Jordyn Ratzlaff and Adyson Krupka are juniors, both from Howells- Dodge.

The sophomores consist of Sydney Messerlie and Jocelyn Donnelly of Leigh, and Hannah Cech and Emma Burnhardt from Clarkson.

Rounding out the team are six freshmen, including Reese Bruhn, Reann Bruhn, Grace Hansen, and Rebecca Hastreiter from Leigh, as well as Allie Dirkschneider and Madison Compton of Howells-Dodge.

Jenica Dietrich is once again the Head Coach for the Cyclones. She is assisted by Drew Machmueller, Tiffany Rayback, Drew Machmueller, and Tonya Hegemann.

Cassi Rayback, senior for the cyclones, said, “We have a very young, inexperienced team this year. There are many positions that will need to be filled. But despite that, we will work every day to be competitive and become better.”

The Cyclones have had one game so far, just two days into school starting on Thursday, August 17.  The game was held at Cross County facilities but the Cyclones played against Polk County.

It was a very close match-up the whole game, until the last inning when Polk County pulled ahead and the Cyclones couldn’t respond, losing the match 3-11. The Cyclones have growing to do, but they have time to do it.

“We knew going into the game that it was going to be tough competition, " said Rayback. “We started the game off very well with lots of hits. They also started hitting the ball very well, and we struggled defensively to get outs. It was a great learning experience, and we have a very fun-filled schedule ahead!”

Good luck to the Cyclones this season!
