Cyclones Come Up Short in First Tourney

The Highway 91 Cyclone Team faced tough competition at the NEN Tournament in Wisner on Saturday, August 26th.

The first game was an unfortunate loss against Boone Central; the final score was 2-12. Next up, the Cyclones battled against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, and it ended up being a close loss with a final score of 9-10. The Cyclones came just short of a win again in their last game of the day against O’Neill; the final score was 4-5.

Head Coach Jenica Dietrich said, “First game we played Boone Central and got off to a rocky start. Jordyn Ratzlaff and Hannah Cech each led the offense with one hit a piece, but in the end, Boone Central's offense was too much, and we ended up with a loss. Next, against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, we found ourselves down early but the offense rallied back and just ran out of time and lost 9-10. Jordyn led the offense again with 3 RBIs while Cassandra Rayback and Madi Compton each had 2 hits and an RBI. Our last game of the day was against O'Neill. It was a super close game, and we ended up losing 5-4. Hannah Cech led the offense with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Cassandra Rayback, Reann Bruhn, and Madi Compton each all added a hit as well. At the end of the day, we made progress defensively all weekend, and our hitting is really coming along.”

Senior Cassandra Rayback said, “We started off the day playing a team we had already played, so we knew what to expect. The second and third games were great battles, keeping the scores within one run. All three teams we played hit the ball very well, and we struggled to get outs at times. Although the weekend didn't go the way we wanted it to, there is still room for lots of improvement.”

The Highway 91 Cyclone team currently has a record of 1-8.
