Three Earn “Student of the Month” Honors

By: Gracie Eisenmann, a freshman at Leigh High School

Leigh Junior and Senior High School is once again recognizing students for “Student of the Month” this year.  Students are nominated by their teachers each month, and then all teachers vote on the winners.

Since we missed the month of September, 3 winners were chosen for October instead of the traditional 2.  The 3 fantastic recipients this month were Sofia Hake, Izzy Hollatz, and Maddie Noonan.

Sofia Hake is the daughter of Kevin and Tracy Hake of Creston, and the granddaughter of Dwane and Jane Mick from Bellwood, and the late Archie and Doris Hake, formerly from Creston.

Sofia is a seventh-grader.  She takes great pride in both keeping her grades up.  Sofia said she doesn’t have a favorite subject.  She likes all of them, but says they all take a lot of work.

Aside from school, Sofia enjoys working on the farm, hanging out with her family, singing, and drawing. When Sofia grows up she wants to work with her family.

Here is what Sofia had to say about receiving this reward, “I am proud to receive this award.  If you respect others, you will be respected too.”

Here is what Sofia’s teachers had to say about her:

--“Sofia has done a nice job of transitioning to 7th grade.”

--“She is extremely kind and helpful.”

--“Sofia has become very excited in Music class. She is opening up and sharing thoughts, answers, and feelings more than in the past. She even asked to be a music aide when she is a senior!”

--“Sofia works very hard to be organized.  She always turns in quality work on time, and she always gives it her all no matter what the task is.  She is very responsible for a seventh-grader, and she is also just a great person!”

Izzy Hollatz is another winner this month. Izzy is an eighth-grader, and this is the second time she has received this special reward.

She is the daughter of Willie and Kylie Hollatz of Creston. She is the granddaughter of Joan and Dave Hollatz of Creston and Jim and Lanette Bathen of David City.

Izzy participates in volleyball, basketball, track, and FCCLA. Her favorite subjects are PE and Math.

In Izzy’s freetime she enjoys playing sports and hanging out with friends and family.

Here is what Izzy had to say about receiving this reward, “When I got this award, I was very happy to know that all of my hard work this year hasn't gone unnoticed by my teachers.”

Here is what her teachers had to say about her:

--“She is a very hard worker with a positive attitude.”

--“She is helpful and very kind to all of the students.”

--“A fun student to have in class. She really excels in her academics and

extracurriculars.”

--She is a fun, respectful student who is always kind to others and takes her studies and

extracurriculars very seriously.  Very deserving of this award!

The final recipient of this award is junior Maddie Noonan. She is the daughter of Greg and the late Shawn Noonan of Creston. She is also the granddaughter of Barb and Mike Noonan of Columbus and Kathy and Lee Seda of Platte Center.

Maddie participates in Volleyball, FFA, YAC, Yearbook, One Act, FBLA, 4-H, Choir, Youth Ministry, and Travel Club.

Maddies favorite subject is Ag, and she really enjoys her Natural Resource class  this year.

“I enjoy learning about agriculture and getting outside and having hands on experience and learning with ag. Even when in the classroom we are still learning and enjoying the class.”

Maddie enjoys working around the farms that she goes to on the weekends in Northern Nebraska. She also enjoys riding four wheelers, hunting, and fishing in her free time.

In the future Maddie plans to attend CCC to get her generals that she has not finished in high school out of the way. Then she plans to further her education at a 4-year college and get a nursing or farm vet degree.

Here is what Maddie had to say about receiving this award, “I feel honored to receive this award and think that everyone should work hard to receive this award to show that you have worked hard this year by doing your work, participating in class, and being kind to others.”

Here is what Maddie’s teachers had to say about her:

--“She is helpful in class, tries very hard, and always has a positive attitude.”

--“She shows up with a positive attitude every day.”

--“She is always willing to help and is always on top of her work!”

--Maddie is a kind person who takes her academics seriously and always wants to do her

best!

Congratulations to Sofia, Izzy, and Maddie on being named “Student of the Month” for October!
